Karen's Glass Art produces hand-made kiln-fused dichroic and Bullseye Glass jewellery and art. The pieces showcased on this website are examples of my work. I currently sell my work at craft fairs and markets in the North East of England where I am based. I also really enjoy doing parties for people in their homes. My Materials
Dichroic glass was developed by NASA for use in the Space Programme, and is made of multiple ultra thin layers of different metals, including gold, silver, metal oxides and silica. The glass looks different in different lights, and can reflect the colour of clothing too, it is very versatile and although pieces made from dichroic glass can look similar, no two are exactly the same.I use Bullseye Glass as a base for other artwork and my jewellery. Produced in Portland, Oregan, I like this glass as it fuses well with the dichroic glass, and there is a huge variety of choice in regard to colours.
I use silver for my chains and earring fittings, sometimes using silk and leather for cords and I use soft woods for my glass picture mounts.
About Me
I trained at the National Glass Centre in Sunderland for three years. I enjoyed working with glass so much that I decided to purchase a kiln to make more pieces on a personal and commercial basis. I now work creating individualistic jewellery and glass art, whilst also experimenting with new techniques and ways of using this beautiful glass.I have finally found what I really love doing and look forward to sharing my pieces with a wider audience.
